Rsptunes: How did you get into the entertainment industry? Any influences?
Gigi: I have always loved Film & Music growing up; I loved Keanu Reeves in the movies & Madonna, Salt ‘N Pepa, Neneh Cherry in music. I always had a feeling that I would end up working in the entertainment industry. It didn’t go down well with my Dad but I decided to do it anyway. I lost 20kgs (+/_ 40 pounds) & got into shape. I sent pictures of myself in my underwear to an Agent that specializes in Lingerie & Swimwear & she called the same day. I booked my first photo shoot within 3 days.
Rsptunes: So talented in many areas being a Film maker, photographer, performer, actress, and model. Is there one profession that you love over the others?
Gigi: Thank you, Acting & Film making takes the cake. I also believe in being adaptable in this industry, gone are the days when you were just an actress & that’s pretty much what you did until you retired. Nowadays you have to be versatile to be marketable as an Artist and be business savvy. If you want to make a decent living in your career you have to find ways of turning it into a business & that gives you control over your life & career.
Rsptunes: Is the modeling industry very competitive in Johannesburg, South Africa? How about the entertainment industry in general for young woman looking to succeed?
Gigi: Yes it is, and even more so internationally. The human gene pool is getting better with every decade & hence the escalating standards of beauty in all forms of media but despite that though I still think that if you really love it then you should go for it. I was a full on Nerd in high school, after I matriculated I decided to re-invent myself. It was hard work but it allowed me to grow stronger emotionally & mentally.
Rsptunes: What is an average day for Gigi Zagorah like? Please describe for us:
Gigi:
Mmm let’s see..I wake up & stumble into the kitchen for coffee. I spring back into life, I feed the cat. Exercise for an hour depending on what time my shoot is I structure my work out schedule according to that. I’m also a part-time student so I try & squeeze in about 2 hours of study time in a day. Some TV Shows get shot in the evening so when I am working then I go over scripts & lines while having supper, I go off to the studio, come back & crash into bed.
Rsptunes: Are there any companies or people that you would love to work with that you haven't had a chance to as yet?
Gigi: I met James Cameron in Davos, Switzerland at the World Economic Forum & he was great. Very humble & nice man so it would be a dream to get a chance to work with him. As a Photographer & Film maker I would love to work for Nickelodeon, Warner Bros Studios or Universal Pictures.
Rsptunes: How has social media helped you in trying to notify others about yourself? (example: facebook, twitter, youtube, etc)
Gigi: Social media & Digital Marketing will help you to a certain extent, what really helps is a launch platform, e.g. being interviewed or appearing on a highly rated TV show or a Movie, people then go & find you on Twitter, Facebook and your profile continues to grow from there onwards.
Rsptunes: Where do you see yourself in the next five years? What would you like to be doing?
Gigi: I see myself becoming a self-possessed brand & entity, I see myself doing amazing projects with a major Film Studio but still maintaining a level of independence, waking up every day with a smile to go to work. Winning some accolades would be ultra-cool too.
Rsptunes: We have to ask this question. What is Gigi Zagorah's favorite food?
Gigi: Pizza on some days & Sushi, I love Sushi!
Rsptunes: For people trying to reach you for bookings or business, what's the best way for them to get in touch with you?
Gigi: For Bookings you can mail my agent Malcolm Paul malcolm@select-sa.co.za ,
The Selection Team (+2711 442 1866), I’m also on Twitter @GigiZagorah & on Facebook (Gigi Zagorah) as well.
